Mr. James M is the President of the Condominium Association at Village Town House, Pompano Beach Inc. Village Town House contains one-hundred units spread amongst ten residential buildings and a communal space with a shuffle board and tennis facilities, as well as a pool. Village Town House is home to all kinds of people - young professionals, families, retirees; “Everything from kids with tricycles to old codgety people,” says Mr.James M. “Just like you find in Florida. Everybody’s in there; there’s no discrimination. All races, all creeds, all religions. Everybody’s in there.”
Village Town House received damages in excess of one million dollars during Hurricane Wilma.
Mr.James M: “Wilma screwed us up royally. What happened originally was this: The inspectors came out and saw only four bad buildings - but there are eleven roofs, okay? So we got insurance money for four roofs, but the roofers did not pass quality control, and three roofs failed. And so the association hired an engineer and found they were all damaged and needed to be replaced. Ten roofs in total. We were hit by fly-by-night roofers.
“We’re a non-profit corporation, because we’re a condo, and it was like no one knew our name when we tried submit a claim. The agent all of a sudden was gone, you know? Same old story. So that’s when the adjusters were signed in to handle all the work and beat them to a pulp, if possible. They went through, had the buildings analyzed. Re-roofing was going to cost about one-point-one million, and they brought in all the engineers and everything to prove to the insurance company that that was the cost of re-covering the roofs properly.
“They did all the work. We’d been trying to deal with the insurance company for a year and a half, but U.S. Public Adjusters had everything processed within four months, and we got a check to pay for all ten roofs.”
